Short written reflections between episodes.
People treat the new birth like a box to check. Pray a prayer, feel something, move on. But regeneration is not a moment you file away; it is the beginning of a life that keeps proving itself. If nothing in you has changed six months after the prayer, something was skipped. The new birth is not agreement with a doctrine. It is the Holy Spirit taking up residence and making Himself known through your appetites, your patience, your honesty when no one is checking. Ask yourself, not whether you remember praying a prayer, but whether the Spirit is visibly at work in you today.
Somewhere along the way, personal devotion became one more item to tick off: five minutes, a verse, a quick prayer, done. But the secret place was never meant to be efficient. It was meant to be personal. The soul that never sits still long enough to hear anything will keep mistaking noise for peace. If your prayer life has become a performance for your own conscience, stop. Sit. Say nothing for a while. Let the Word stop being a text you read and start being a voice that shapes you. That shift alone will do more for your walk than another year of rushed devotions.
A tree does not strain to grow fruit. It stays connected to its root, and the fruit follows. Somewhere we turned Galatians 5 into a checklist: try to be more patient, try to be kinder, and wondered why we kept failing. The fruit of the Spirit is evidence of abiding, not a target for effort. If your character has not changed in years despite trying, the problem is not your effort. It is your connection. Stop straining to produce what only comes from staying attached to the Vine.
Everyone wants deliverance to be a single dramatic moment: hands laid, chains broken, done. Sometimes it is. More often, freedom is a walk, not an event. Sanctification is not instant sinlessness; it is the daily, deliberate surrender of ground the enemy has held for years. If you have prayed for breakthrough and nothing shifted overnight, that does not mean God did not hear you. It means the process has started, and it asks something of you too: watchfulness, honesty, community. Do not despise the slow work. It is still work.
